Shameless Self-Promotion.

I’ve gone a little cross-eyed from sending too many emails.

Today, I’m on the Doggett & Ephgrave promotional warpath. I’ve spent the past two or three hours sending out press releases for our two-night run at Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival next month, as well as our two nights of the London version of Mostly Comedy at the Leicester Square Theatre.

Both events involve the word Leicester, though one of them is actually in London. The potential for confusion is alarmingly high.

I’m doing it in an attempt to push the two of us into more people’s line of sight. The one thing that myself and Glyn do the least is promote ourselves; we get so caught up in organising events, that we spend little or no time on either our profile or our act. We never set out to just run a comedy club; increasingly, we spend so much time concerned with the admin that’s involved, that we lose sight of why we're doing it in the first place.

We’re attempting to turn this around. Time is tight, though we’re trying to make the best of it. Yesterday, we met for just a couple of hours, but managed to get the line-ups for both London Mostly dates booked up, plus all the artwork for both London and Leicester.

We also managed to book Phill Jupitus for this month’s Hitchin Mostly Comedy; easily the biggest act that we’ve secured since the club began. We only announced it on Tuesday and have already sold 50 tickets. It’s madness.

As well as sending information to all of the relevant press, I’ve also emailed a handful of comedy agents. We need someone else to fight our corner. The plan is to work up the stand-up show so it’s in good shape for Leicester, then possibly perform the whole show during the second half at both London Mostly dates; knowing we’ll at least be match-fit after our festival run.

I hope we get some interest. It would give us the confidence boost that we both need after working for ourselves so intensively for the past nine years.

If all else fails, I might start being more blatant with my correspondence: would it be inappropriate to mark the subject of our emails “WE’RE NOT SHIT”?

Perhaps we’ll call our next show ‘Doggett & Ephgrave: Desperately Seeking Represention’.

‘Doggett & Ephgrave Project Stuff’ is being performed at The Looking Glass as part of Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival on 10th & 11th February at 8pm. Click here for details.

You can also catch us at our Leicester Square Theatre version of Mostly Comedy; on 12th February with PHIL KAY & SAM FLETCHER or 12th March with BRIAN GITTINS & NISH KUMAR. Click here to find out more.

(That’s enough shameless self-promotion for one day.)
